Resort 2012–Part 2…

Noted Trends:

1.  red, Red, RED:

While red is no stranger to the runway, it has emerged as a dominant color in more than usual collections.  It seams like each year there is a color that is declared supreme making editors, journalists and bloggers alike claim it to be the new black.  This season, that color is red with the little red dress included everywhere.

2.  Yellow:

Second to red in popularity this season is yellow.  While a wide range of tones were evident, the soft mellow yellow proved to be most popular.  I, personally, am partial to a slightly more canary hue but perhaps my feelings will change by next summer.

3.  Color Blocking:

I’ve never loved color blocking.  It always seems to chop the body up into unnatural proportions.  This season, however, color blocking has taken a slightly less awkward and more modern feminine approach.  Here are just a few of the looks for Resort 2012..

4.  Menswear Inspired:

Menswear as women’s wear is nothing new, however, this season it seems the look has reached a new level of femininity and sophistication while abandoning the hardened elements popularized by Madonna and (more recently) Rihanna.

5.  Shrug-ish:

While not quite a trend (as Givenchy was really the only designer to use the shrug prevalently in their collection), I wanted to bring attention to the look.  For me, the shrug’s purpose has always been lost in the cropped length (only half the torso gets cold?..). However, the garment as shown below abandons it’s role as a warmth providing layering piece and introduces a new neckline that, while not universally flattering (C cup and up wear with precaution), is versatile, interesting, and seemingly easy to implement.

6.  That which shall not be named..

I’m giving  minimal attention to the wetsuit trend in hopes less acknowledgment will make it go away.  Wetsuits, and neoprene in general, have a place and a purpose: the place being water and the purpose being warmth.  In my opinion, the look is not becoming, fashionable or practical.  Check it out here if you would like.
